CONNECT
I find it essential to first establish a relationship and connect with my students on a personal level. This is the foundation to creating a safe and comfortable learning environment where the students feel safe to ask questions and are not afraid to make mistakes. |
RELATE
Being involved with my students outside of the classroom in sports and extracurricular activities helps to support individualized instruction when material is made relatable. Mathematics needs to be taught with examples in the NOW with real-world situations that students could see when they leave high school. |
ENGAGE
This is the fun part. Using a variety of instructional deliveries makes the job enjoyable. This could mean providing tricks and tips or even a song to help a student remember a concept or formula. I view the key to engaging a student is to use to use varied questioning techniques to encourage students to justify their own thinking. This will, in the end, demonstrate mastery. |
I LOVE MATH.
I know to some people that might seem like a crazy concept, but it’s the truth. Ever since I can remember I have enjoyed solving equations and looking for alternate routes to the same solution. Over the years as a teaching professional I have honed a certain set of teaching skills that has resonated with students and proven to work.
